Application of a borate-treated product for the protection of carbon-containing refractory articles against oxidation and corrosion. According to the process for manufacture of carbon-containing refractory articles of the invention: - an agent for protection against oxidation is used in combination with the said refractory carbon-containing material, - the whole is heated to a temperature of at least 450 DEG C. Another subject of the invention is an agent for protection against oxidation for the manufacture of carbon-containing refractory articles and the said carbon-containing refractory articles obtained by this process of manufacture.
