The seat (1) has slide rails (3) fastened to the vehicle floor (2), a seat locking unit (42) with operating mechanism, and a device (5) to fold the backrest (12,13) down and forward onto the seat (11). A limiter mechanism between operating mechanism and folding down device permits release of the locking unit only, when the backrest is positioned folded on the seat, but prevents release, when the backrest is in upright use position. The limiter mechanism has a lever, which engages with the operating mechanism for its control.
