An electrical discharge machining in which the machining conditions are automatically updated in such a way that the discharging state matches the target values. Initial machining condition P1, a target electrical discharge state (normal discharge rate, for example) P2, and a constant P3 for calculating a new machining condition are determined. The initial machining conditions P1 are stored in a register D which stores execution machining conditions. The machining starts on the conditions thus stored (S3). The error (E) is obtained between the detection data P4 which represent the discharging state, and the target discharge state (S7). The new machining condition (A) is obtained by adding the product of the error (E) multiplied by the constant PC (= C) to the current machining condition (A) (S8). Thereafter, these steps are repeated and the machining condition is updated so that the discharging state matches the target discharge state. The target discharge state is obtained by the test machining.

|
