A composition which inhibits the in vivo formation of scar tissue at a surface of a device coated with the composition when the device is inserted at an in vivo site. The composition promotes growth of viable tissue at the site of insertion of a device and comprises a biocompatible polymer and an extracellular matrix molecule or fragment thereof.
