PURPOSE: To provide an optimum operation condition wherein light intensity is uniform and increases monotonously as rapid as possible without exceeding a desired optical output, by adjusting auxiliary power at the time when a lamp is turned on and input duration thereof based on the lamp-on/off time till then. CONSTITUTION: A voltage and a current of a high-pressure gas discharge lamp GDL are measured by measuring instruments U, I respectively. Based on values thereof, the actual power value is found by the use of an actual power value determination device LI. Meanwhile, a power target determination device LS generates a power target value by a lamp-on/off signal by a condition determination device ST. A comparator V, comparing the power target value with the power actual value, controls an alternating current voltage generator W and activates the lamp GDL by means of an ignition arrangement Z connected thereto. The determination device LS generates an optimum power target value depending on a characteristic curve of the lamp based on the lamp-off time and the preceding lamp-on/time. |
