PURPOSE:To improve the protection of a wire harness by detecting an intermittent short which does not actuate any fuse nor circuit breaker and, upon detecting the short, issuing an alarm and disconnecting an electric circuit. CONSTITUTION:A wire harness protective device is provided with a battery 1, current detecting means 5 which detects the current flowing to a wire harness 4 connecting a load 3 to an alternator 2, electromagnetic wave detecting means 6 which detects electromagnetic waves radiated from the wire harness, and a frequency analyzing means 7 which analyzes the frequency of the electromagnetic waves detected by the means 6. The protective device is also provided with a discriminating means 8 which discriminates the intermittent short of the wire harness 4 from the current value detected by the means 5 and frequency-analyzed results of the means 7 and either one of or both of an alarming means 9 which issues an alarm depending upon the discriminated results of the means 8 and a disconnecting means 10 which disconnects an electric circuit. |
