PURPOSE: To provide a light valve for adjusting a light transmitted through a fiber optical system. CONSTITUTION: A light valve is provided with a scattering panel 20 arranged between first and second light guides 10 and 30. A reflection surface 40 directs a light from an output end 14 of the first light guide 10 to an input end 24 of the second light guide 30, and loss related with a conventional device is reduced. The light is allowed to pass through the scattering panel 20 plural times by using the reflection surface 40 so that contrast rate in the on and off states of this system can be increased.
