<p>PURPOSE: To obtain a multiplexer which can continuously supply data packets having different lengths to an output terminal by coupling sets of digital words read by means of input means with each other by means of a multiplexing means. CONSTITUTION: Input means RGR and RGN simultaneously read a set of (r) pieces of digital words and a set of (n) pieces of digital words, with the (r) being smaller than (n), from the memory sections of memory devices RAM 0-RAM3 respectively provided with pluralities of memory sections each of which can store (n) pieces of digital words and transfer the read sets to a multiplexing means MUX. The means MUX couples the read sets with each other before the means MUX transfers at least part of the coupled set to an output terminal OUT. When this constitution is used, a multiplexer which can continuously supply data packets having different lengths without leaving any gap between two continuous data packets even when the lengths of the packets are not exact multiples of (n) can be obtained.</p> |
