Polymers which are capable of oxidative crosslinking and contain unsaturated fatty acid radicals, a process for their preparation by reaction of intramolecular carboxylic anhydride group-containing copolymers with olefinically unsaturated hydroxyalkylamides to form imides, and their use as binders or binder components for coating compositions or sealants.
