METALLIC PIGMENT COATED WITH SYNTHETIC RESIN, AND PRODUCTION AND APPLICATION OF THE PIGMENT

The invention describes novel metallic pigments coated with synthetic resin, which contain a siloxane coating, covalently bonded to the surface of the powder particles to which a three-dimensional cross-linked synthetic resin coat is covalently bonded. Such pigments can be obtained by production of an organosilicon coating of the pigment surface, subsequent conversion of this coating into a siloxane coating and subsequent reaction with a low molecular weight compound forming the synthetic resin coat. The metal pigments according to the invention are particularly suitable for the production of water-based lacquer, dye and paint compositions and in wet lacquers and powder lacquers for electrostatic lacquering and the colouring of plastics.
