PURPOSE:To obtain a mixed polymaleimide having characteristics of toughness, etc., inherent in 2,2-bis[4-(4-maleimidophenoxy)phenyl]propane, having <=5 (mg- KOH/g) acid value, having high purity and low melting point of 80-120 deg.C, not containing a solvent. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic polyamine mixture comprising 100 pts.wt. of 2,2- bis[4-(4-aminophenoxy)phenyl]propane and 1-30 pts.wt. of an aromatic polyamine selected from other aromatic ether diamine and aromatic oligoamine and maleic anhydride are subjected to addition reaction in a mixed solvent of an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent and an aprotic polar solvent to give a polymaleamic acid, which is subjected to ring closure reaction through dehydration in the presence of an acid catalyst. Water formed as a by-product is azeotropically removed together with an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent and the resultant reaction solution is cooled to precipitate and separated maleimide. |
