PURPOSE: To provide a wound bandage material suited to form a highly adaptive film when spread and causing rapid release of alginate to a wound bed by containing a moisture retainer comprising specific proportions of an alginate ester of a 1-6C polyhydric alcohol and a 1-6C monohydric or polyhydric alcohol, and water. CONSTITUTION: This water-soluble wound bandage material contains a moisture retainer, which comprises 5-50 wt.% alginate ester of a 1-6C polyhydric alcohol on the basis of dry material weight and 50-95 wt.% one kind or more of a 1-6C monohydric alcohol or polyhydric alcohols, and 0-30 wt.% water. Since the material has a high content of the moisture retainer, it is particularly suited for use as a moist wound bandage, and in addition the material containing the moisture retainer in a high ratio is relatively low-cost since the moisture retainer is cheaper than alginates. The use of 5 wt.% ester alginate enables manufacture of a stiff film without the need to add a reinforcing polymer such as PVA. |
