<p>A converter for the production of steel from solid and/or liquid charge materials, such as pig iron and/or scrap and/or sponge iron, has a refractory-lined refining vessel (1), a refining device (9, 17) which supplies oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas, and a heating device. To achieve maximum productivity with a high scrap charge and great purity of the steel, the heating device has at least one consumable graphite electrode (11) and the refining device is formed independently of the heating device either by an oxygen-blowing lance (9) or has oxygen-blowing bottom and/or side nozzles (17) lying below the level of the melting bath (Fig. 1). <IMAGE></p> |
