A burner operates in a cylindrical space bounded by a burner tube (11). The tube is sepd. by several radial flanges (17) from a second tube (3). The flanges conduct heat outwards to the ring-shaped space (12). The space is filled by the central heating medium which may be air or water. A tub-shaped vessel (2) is filled with tap water. The water vessel, the burner tube and the second tube form eccentrically positioned cylinders, inside one another. The burner has upper and lower baffles (28).
