A satellite receiving antenna for aircraft, vehicles or ships, using a new arrangement of a coaxial dipole chain. The relatively weak signals from geostationary weather satellites such as METEOSAT and GOES have until now permitted only very limited reception in mobile conditions. In particular, the reception in aircraft during flight was impossible at a reasonable cost. The situation was exacerbated by the increased use of "ranging". In this case, two satellites (the active satellite and the reserve satellite) transmit at the same frequency and the same time, their angular separation being only approximately 10 DEG . The solution comprises a very small structural form having, in particular, low wind loads while at the same time having a sharply directional characteristic in the horizontal direction with a sufficiently high antenna gain at the same time. The horizontal discrimination clarity is achieved by the use of a group circuit of dipole elements (chain), a particularly low-loss solution which can be produced easily being necessary because the reflector size is only small. The dipole chain consists of half-wavelength sections, which are tuned accurately to the wavelength ( lambda ) of a coaxial cable or of rigid tubular elements whose internal insulation consists largely of air, in order to achieve a shortening factor of approximately 0.9. The inner conductor is in this case alternately connected to the outer conductor of the following section. When used in aircraft, the outer skin of the aircraft with ... Original abstract incomplete.
