<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a turbo compound internal combustion engine, which can detect a trouble influencing mechanical performance of an auxiliary turbine. SOLUTION: In this turbo compound internal combustion engine 1, provided with a drive shaft 19, a turbo charger 2 having a turbine 3 and a compressor 4, an auxiliary turbine 13, and a speed changer 20, the engine 1 is characterized by comprising an angular velocity sensor 28 detecting a rotational speed of the auxiliary turbine 13, calculation means 40, 41 connected to the angular velocity sensor 28 to control the rotational speed of the auxiliary turbine 13 to calculate a permissible range of this rotational speed, comparator means 42, 54 comparing the range of a permissible value with the measured rotational speed, and a control device 31 having control means 38, 39 controlling an operation parameter of the internal combustion engine 1 by an output of the comparator means 42, 54 to maintain the rotary speed of the auxiliary turbine within the permissible range.</p> |
