PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly predict and suitably correct the states of various images such as images containing wide spaces for specified gray-scale values, images having not suitable brightness of half-tone and images containing many detailed subjects. SOLUTION: In a method for image correction, an original image is divided into a plurality of areas to calculate characteristic amount for every multiple area, a statistical amount to predict the state of the original image is calculated by using the characteristic amount to compare the calculated value with a predetermined value, so that a parameter for image correction is determined to correct the original image by using the parameter.
