PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for identifying a screen area and a non-screen area of a projected or displayed image, smoothing while retaining sharpness of the non-screen area, and selectively removing moire from the screen area. SOLUTION: After sorting each picture element of the image into screen picture elements or non-screen picture elements, sorting of a picture element is confirmed by studying a predetermined picture element in a peripheral area of the picture element. A low-pass filter is applied to a picture element inside the image so that a center of the low-pass filter selectively shifts in regard to a present picture element on the basis of an inspection when the low-pass filter is applied.
