Grinding and polishing devices, designed as attachments for hand-guided working machines, are employed, in the case of an eccentric mode of operation, for surface grinding. According to the invention, it is made possible to design a grinding and polishing device so that it is provided with a protective hood eliminating injuries, into which the essential components not subject to wear are integrated, so that merely the grinding plate can be replaced with simple handling in the event of wear. <IMAGE>
