PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital broadcast receiver to notify a new channel, according to a user's preference, when the new channel was added. SOLUTION: A memory for storing channel information in this digital broadcast receiving unit DRU, stores such channel information as the classification of channels to be received, the time to view programs, and the like. If received programs include an unknown channel whose information has not been stored in the memory, after judging the user's preference based on the reception channel information such as the classification for channel reception and the viewing time, a display 11 on the digital broadcast receiving unit DRU shows the new channel if it is suitable to the user's preference.
