An adjustable suspender capable of suspending a load is a horizontal state with ease. The suspender has a suspension sprocket (22) around which a suspension chain (26) is passed, and a driving sprocket (23) around which an endless chain (27) is passed, both of these sprockets being supported rotatably on a support bracket (21). A driving worm (30) adapted to turn in accordance with the rotation of the driving sprocket is meshed with a driven worm wheel (31) formed unitarily with the suspension sprocket. The driving sprocket is rotated by operating the endless chain, to tense the suspension chain and turn the suspension sprocket with a load (28) kept suspended, whereby a support position of the suspension sprocket with respect to the suspension chain is adjusted. The rotation of the worm wheel due to the load torque applied to the suspension sprocket is restricted by the worm.
