The present invention involves a water gun (1) having a housing (3), a barrel (9), at least one removable pressurizable air/water storage tank (13), means (11, 45) for connecting the tank(s) to the housing of the gun, a pressurizing mechanism (17, 19, 21, 23, 25), a channel of release (31) for shooting water and a water release mechanism (7, 35, 37, 51, 53, 55, 57, 59, 61, 65). The water gun has an improved double position bayonet connection (11, 45) between the tank and the housing, for connecting the tank(s) to the housing of the water gun. It includes a female receiving collar (45) with a circular channel (109, 111) about its inside and a male protrusion collar (11). The channel has a top flange (117, 119) over it and has a drop-in for cut-outs (101, 103) for insertion of a male protrusion counterpart. The channel has a first predetermined depth along at least a first arc (105, 107) under the flange and has a second deeper locking predetermined depth along at least a second arc (109, 111) under the flange. The arcs include a pressure release opening (79) through the sidewall so as to eliminate pressurization of the tank and the second arc is sized to seal the male and female collars to permit pressurization of the tank.
