<p>A self-supported low pressure drop hollow fiber membrane panel (10) includes a pair of layers (30, 32) of textile material, a pair of layers (12, 14) of non-permeable material encapsulating the layers (30, 32) of textile material, and a multiplicity of hollow fibers (20) of permeable material extending between and in generally transverse relationship to the layers (30, 32) of textile material and layers (12, 14) of non-permeable material. Opposite end portions of the hollow fibers (20) are encapsulated by the respective layers (12, 14) of non-permeable material and are open at external sides (16) thereof. Elongated portions (26) of the hollow fibers (20) have elongated internal bores (28) providing flow communication between the open opposite end portions (22, 24) of the hollow fibers (20). The elongated portions (26) of the hollow fibers (20) extend between internal sides (18) of the respective layers (12, 14) of non-permeable material. Lengths of the elongated portions (26) of the hollow fibers (20) are substantially less than length and width dimensions of the layers (12, 14) of non-permeable material.</p> |
