Non-destructive method for determining elastic constants of boards

In the production of boards, the board properties must be measured and evaluated continuously for quality and production control. The current destructive test methods on small test-bodies allow determination of the board properties only with a considerable time delay, so that faulty production and fluctuations quality can only be detected at a late stage. Non-destructive test methods allow the detection of the board properties actually on the production line directly after board manufacture. According to this novel method, narrow board strips which, for example, have been taken from a board, or entire boards are tested in a continuous method. The elastic constants are determined by measuring the board deflection and the forces required for this. The elastic constants are calculated from the measured quantities. This method is suitable for continuous monitoring of production lines, for example in the derived timber product and gypnum plaster board industry. This method is capable of giving indications of the board properties without time delay. <IMAGE>
