Improvement to the locking device of a motor-vehicle tailgate, on which a lower opening panel (8) is mounted and in which an actuating lever (24) is mounted in an articulated manner on a fixed support plate, the free end (241) of which lever being coupled to an assembly (30) for controlling a lock consisting, on the one hand, of a bolt (22), mounted pivotably about a first pivot pin (27) carried by the body and lockable by a locking lever (28) mounted pivotably about a second pivot pin (29), and, on the other hand, of a keeper (23) for receiving the said bolt (22), characterised in that the control assembly (30) carried by a support (35) fastened rigidly to the lower opening panel (8) consists of a cam (36) for operating the locking lever (28), the said cam being mounted pivotably about a third pivot pin (37) carried by the said support (35). <IMAGE>
