Method for identifying an electrical cable comprising a conductive shield (screen) (B) and a conductive core (A) electrically insulated from the shield, in which, characteristically, the said shield is earthed (T), a current pulse is emitted on the shield by means of a current injector device (100) which is earthed so that the return of this pulse to the injector device takes place via earth, and the said electrical cable is identified by detecting, using a detector (200), at a reception point located on the path of the current pulse, a signal representative of this pulse. <IMAGE>
