The invention provides a lightweight concrete which contains, as light aggregate, comminuted and pressed grasses, preferably China reed, and has a bulk density of 400-1200 kilograms. Further components of the proposed lightweight concrete are cement, water and glass fibres for reinforcement. In addition, an air pore former is used to improve the concrete quality and to achieve a further weight reduction. The air pore former is preferably metered into the makeup water and is added to the cement together with this. Stirring of this mixture gives a cement slurry into which the glass fibres and the reed pieces are subsequently mixed. This concrete composition is then mixed well (for example in a mechanical mixer) and is thus ready to use.
