The subject of the invention is a process for joining cold-rolled steel sheets (1, 2) by mash seam welding, in which the trailing end (1a) of a first sheet (1) and the leading end (2a) of a second sheet (2) to be joined to the said first sheet are placed so as to be overlapping, each sheet (1, 2) is clamped on either side of the overlapping interface and the overlapping interface is welded by passing under the effect of conducting seam-welding wheels (21, 22) between which an electric welding current flows. The process consists, after the welding, in unclamping the joined sheets (1, 2) and in subjecting the welded area (4) of the joined sheets (1, 2) to the action of at least two rollers (41, 42) driven in rotation, these rollers being horizontal and parallel to each other, each located opposite one face of the joined sheets (1, 2) in order to roll down the additional thickness of the said welded areas (4). The subject of the invention is also a joining device for the implementation of the process. <IMAGE> |
