Process for cleaning a painting tool such as a brush, a roller or the like, which consists in soaking the paint-soiled tool in an aqueous medium comprising microorganisms and at least one enzyme which degrades the polymeric binder of the paint, and a small amount of a water-soluble surface-active agent devoid of biocidal or biostatic properties, for a sufficient amount of time for the said binder to be substantially degraded into water-soluble substances or into substances which may be removed easily, followed by rinsing the said tool in water.
