Exhaust silencer for a freight vehcle which is driven by a combustion engine and has a separate beam frame (2) on which the vehicle drive unit with the engine is mounted. The combustion engine has at least one exhaust outlet which communicates via a first exhaust line (8) with an exhaust inlet (14) of an exhaust silencer (10) which has an exhaust outlet (16) and which communicates with the atmosphere via a second exhaust line (12). The exhaust silencer (10) comprises a hollow and preferably cubic housing (18) which is arranged in the area of the beam frame (2) with one wall area of the silencer housing (18) situated beside an outward-facing vertical side surface (20) of the beam frame.
