<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithographic method wherein an image is recorded directly from digital data of a computer or the like by an infrared laser with an original plate of a lithographic plate used and wherein on-press development can be performed in a printing process without conducting any developing process and a large number of sheets of excellent printed matter can be obtained, and the original plate of the lithographic plate which is used suitably for the lithographic method. <P>SOLUTION: This lithographic method has a process wherein the original plate of the lithographic plate having an image recording layer which contains (A) an infrared absorber, (B) a polymerization initiator and (C) a polymerizable compound expressed by general formula (1) and which is recordable by exposure to infrared rays is exposed imagewise to the infrared laser, and a printing process wherein printing is performed after the exposure without any development by supplying oil-based ink and a water-based component. The portion of the image recording layer that is unexposed to the infrared layer is removed in the course of the printing process. In the general formula (1), Ar<SP>1</SP>denotes an arylene group or a bivalent heterocyclic group. R<SP>1</SP>denotes a hydrogen atom or a 1-6C alkyl group.
