The invention relates to a device for positioning a workpiece and holding it in position using an air vacuum in order to machine it. According to a first characteristic, it includes a vacuum bed, the surface of which is smooth and equipped with orifices plugged by removable discs and seals ensuring sealing when these orifices are not in use. The device placed over an open orifice of the bed includes a casing held in position by vacuum elements, the air circuit of which is independent of the main air circuit of the bed. The workpiece is referenced against a retractable limit stop and on a positioning stud placed on the casing and held in position by an air vacuum provided by a pump.
