This device, interposed between a vehicle bumper and the rest of the structure of the vehicle, including a structure which deforms under impact, for connecting and for absorbing energy, equipped with two more or less parallel mounting plates (4a, 4b), one (4a) fixed to the bumper and the other (4b) to the rest of the structure of the vehicle and with means (5) for absorbing impact energy between the two mounting plates, is characterised in that the means for absorbing impact energy comprise at least two joining arms (6, 7) which can move and/or deform in opposite directions from each other, and between which there is a member (8) which deforms under tension, more or less parallel to the mounting plates (4a, 4b) and for absorbing impact energy by controlling the movement and/or deformation of the arms following an impact. <IMAGE>
