The invention relates to a method and to an apparatus for pruning or de-limbing standing trees, wherein there is used a so-called pruning apparatus (1) which includes a pruning device (2) which can be moved along the trunk (100) of a tree and which includes means (80, 82, 84) for removing branches from the tree, and which further includes a boom (3) which pivotally carries the pruning device (2). The boom (3) is mounted on a vehicle (11) by means of which the pruning apparatus (1) can be manoeuvred so as to bring the pruning device (2) to a desired starting position in relation to the trunk (100) of a tree, wherein the pruning means (80, 82, 84) of the pruning device are brought to an operative position in relation to the trunk. The pruning device (2) is then moved upwards along the trunk (100) so as to remove branches from the trunk to a desired height thereon, wherein the pruning device (2) is guided by the trunk (100). The boom (3) carrying the pruning device (2) is mounted so that the length of the boom can be adjusted in relation to the vehicle (11). Alternatively, the boom may be slidably mounted on the vehicle (11) so that the trunk (100) will be able to guide the pruning device (2) for movement along the trunk. The pruning device (2) includes a number of guide wheels (61-72) which contribute towards achieving careful movement of the pruning device along the trunk (100). The invention provides both qualitative and economical advantages. |
