The van includes a set of means which allow it to accommodate an over-sized (overly wide) load (16) and transport it in the usual conditions of transport for soft-sided vans, that is to say with maximum protection. These means first of all consist of a wall (11) which can be deformed as desired in order to form a pouch. This wall (11) consists of a piece of fabric whose height is greater than the useful height of the van, and whose length is greater than the useful length of the platform by means of gussets (bellows) (19, 20) located at its ends. The wall (11) can be expanded to a greater volume using intermediate uprights (13). These uprights are equipped with articulations so as to form a dihedron. The foot of these uprights is supported by means of telescopic arms (18) which extend transversely from the platform. To allow access to the platform, from the rear and/or from above, the lateral structure of the van can be opened up by means of telescopic arms (23 and 24) guided in translation at the top of the front face (2) and at the rear of the platform (1) respectively. These provisions make it possible to enhance the multi-function nature of this type of vehicle. <IMAGE>
