The present invention relates to a system for hanging and opening and closing a shutter which is operated vertically from a rail (1) from which the shutter is hung, comprising at least one cord (4) fixed via a first of its ends to a free end of the shutter and forming, by its other end, a means for manually controlling the opening of the shutter, characterised in that it includes a control device (2) comprising a main member (14), placed along the rail (1), around which the said opening cord (4) travels, and a manually-controlled member (15) which locks the opening cord (4); the said locking member (15) being able to engage via its free end with an approximately vertical back end (19) of the control device (2), along which the said cord (4) passes. <IMAGE>
