The invention relates to a seat, a sofa or the like, preferably a vehicle seat, consisting of a base body (3), an air-permeable cover (11), preferably made of textile, and padding (4) placed between the cover and the base body. In order to obtain a seat which is very comfortable when being used, which can be made easily and without pollution and which does not cause pollution problems at the end of its lifetime either, the padding (4) is made of a fibrous thermoplastic material, in particular one based on polyester, which is formed by the action of heat and pressure, so as to acquire a density of 20 to 120 kg/m<3>, preferably 30 to 100 kg/m<3>, and a thickness of approximately 10 to 100 mm. <IMAGE>
