The invention relates to a gearbox comprising, on at least one carrying shaft (29) at least one first forward gear (23) which can rotate freely on the said carrying shaft (29), at least one reverse gear (24) driven by the said carrying shaft (29) and at least one sliding shaft (21) comprising at least one securing element (271, 272) capable, in engagement, of coupling onto at least one accommodating housing (281 282) of the said first forward gear (23), in which gearbox the said reverse gear (24) is inserted between the said forward gear (23) and the said sliding shaft (21), each of the said securing elements (271, 272) of the said sliding shaft passing, in engagement, through a corresponding slot (2101, 2102) machined in an element for driving reverse gear (24). Thus, the overall size of the box is reduced or, for the same size, it is possible to add an additional gear ratio. <IMAGE>
