The invention relates to a device for checking and counting, without risk of error or of interference, the passage of skiers descending a slope. It consists of two casings (5) and (6) respectively containing an emitter (2) and (3) and a receiver (1) and (4) which set up two infrared barriers. When the skier breaks, consecutively, firstly the two uphill (10) and downhill (11) infrared barriers and, secondly, the downhill barrier (11) alone, the interface contained in the first casing delivers a pulse corresponding to the passage of the skier. Power supply and the electrical signal are transmitted via three-conductor cables (7) and (12) connected to the output cable (9) of a 24-volt D.C. electrical power supply (8). This device is intended particularly for counting the passage of skiers. <IMAGE>
