A process is described for purifying exhaust air which contains aggressive organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran and/or cyclohexanone, the adsorbent being a monodisperse macroporous ion exchanger without functional groups based on polymerised synthetic resins. The adsorbent preferably used, since it virtually has close hexagonal sphere packing, has a high bulk density and therefore a high adsorption capacity, the moisture and CO2 in the laden exhaust air not being adsorbed, while the said solvents are virtually completely adsorbed. The desorption can proceed in a broad temperature range under the action of inert gas, preferably nitrogen and/or CO2. The adsorber is also suitable as a buffer for collecting solvent peak loads.
