An apparatus is used for monitoring a filling volume of a system having pipelines in which a flowing medium may be delivered, in particular by means of a compressor (2), and which has a reservoir (10). A functionally reliable monitoring of the liquid volume is to be carried out at low additional cost. It is proposed to arrange in the reservoir (10) a filling level sensor (48) and preferably a temperature sensor (46) which are connected to a computer (50). The flowing medium is deposited in the reservoir (10) at predeterminable time intervals and, by means of the computer (50), at least one signal registered using the filling level sensor (48) is compared with a signal corresponding to a desired value. <IMAGE>
