PURPOSE:To prevent the omission and ununification of words and phrases to be indexes by automatizing process from the extraction of character strings to the generation of the indexes in a document prepared by a word processor. CONSTITUTION:An index dictionary 9 stores extraction object words and phrases to be reference for judging whether or not the character strings are the words and phrases to be the indexes, a character string extraction means 3 extracts the character strings and the numbers of the characters from the document, a collation means 4 collates the extracted character strings and the numbers of the characters with the index dictionary 9 and an index entry means 5 enters the words and phrases judged as the words and phrases to be the indexes in an index list 8. Then, the index entry means 6 sorts the entered words and phrases in the order of Japanese syllabaries, gathers the ones for which the character strings and the numbers of the characters are the same and then adds only page numbers to the item column of the page number of the index list 8 and an index output means 7 outputs the index list 8 to an index document file 11. A control means 2 controls the character string extraction means 3, the collation means 4, the index entry means 5, the index entry means 6 and the index output means 7. |
