MOTION DETECTOR FOR PICTURE SIGNAL

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of detection errors even for fine pictures like hair by comparing the picture signal level of a detection object picture element and the picture signal levels of peripheral picture elements and turning a space-time filter ON and OFF. CONSTITUTION:A frame synthesis circuit 17 converts the picture signals of interlace scanning inputted by a field unit to the picture signals of the successive operations of a frame unit and outputs them and a control circuit 18 receives them and compares the picture signal levels of the detection object picture element and the respective peripheral picture elements within the range of the periphery (m)X(n) of the detection object picture element. As a result, when the signals whose level is the same as the signal level of the detection object picture element continue from the detection object picture element to the outer edge of a comparison range (m)X(n), the signal for turning OFF a time filter processing is outputted. Also, a synthesis circuit 19 ORs the output signals of a comparator circuit 16 and the output signals of the control circuit 18 and outputs switching signals to a switching circuit 20. As the result, even when a part of a background near the detection object picture element moves, the generation of motion detection errors is prevented and precise motion detection can be performed.
