<p>A high speed web cutter (10) has a rotating roller (22) with an extended bar (26) mounted perpendicular to its surface and angled to be aligned askew with respect to the roller's (22) axis. During the rotation of the roller (22), the bar (26) interferingly contacts a plate (30) having an angled edge (32) that is mounted on a relatively stiff cantilever spring (40). The bar edge (28) and the plate edge (32) are not mounted parallel with each other nor are either of them parallel with the plane of the web (50). As the roller (22) rotates, the extended bar (26) deflects the cantilever spring (40), allowing the edges to intersect in a cutting intersection that travels axially with roller (22) rotation, thereby severing a web (50) member passing between the roller (22) and the plate edge (32).</p> |
