In the method for operating a stereoscopic system (1) having two approximately identical viewing channels (2, 2') with in each case objective (4, 4') and camera (3, 3'), the optical parameters focus (5), diaphragm (6) and zoom setting (7) of a viewing channel (2), predetermined to be the master channel, are in each case controlled sequentially. The settings (16, 17, 18) measured in this process are used to track and adjust the corresponding optical parameters (5', 6', 7') of the viewing channel (2') determined as slave channel. For this purpose, the measured settings (16, 19; 17, 20; 18, 21) of optical parameters (5, 5'; 6, 6'; 7, 7'), which mutually correspond in pairs, of the two viewing channels (2, 2') are continuously compared with each other during the tracking and adjustment. <IMAGE>
