An ignition distributor for an internal combustion engine is to be designed with a temporary blocking device (19) for the ignition pulse generator of the ignition distributor in such a way that the ignition distributor is not functionally impaired by the blocking device (19) being released. The blocking device (19) has a pin (20) between a moving and a stationary part of the ignition distributor, which pin (20) has a notch (24) as predetermined break point which divides the pin (20) into a first section (31) and a second section (32). Whilst the first section (31) is continuously anchored in a first recess (21) with a form fit in a stationary or movable part of the ignition distributor, the second section (32) engages in a second recess (22) in a moving or stationary part of the ignition distributor with joint play. When the internal combustion engine is started, the blocking of the ignition pulse generator is interrupted by the pin (20) shearing off and being separated into its two sections (31, 32). In this process, the second section (32) remains secured in the second recess (22) in a positively engaging way so that any risk to the drive of the ignition distributor is avoided. <IMAGE>
