A tape reel (12) includes a cylindrical hub (48) having a cylindrical tape winding surface (50), an upper flange (54) and a lower flange (58). A cylindrical mounting portion (66) is formed on the inner opening (68) of the upper flange (54) and has a free end portion (74) and a hub receiving portion (76) on the outer surface. The free end portion (74) is located closer to the free end (72) of the mounting portion (66) and is thinner than the hub receiving portion (76). The hub (48) has a free end (56) on which the upper flange (54) is mounted. The inner surface of the hub includes a main portion (60) and a flange receiving portion (62) located closer to the free end (72) than the main portion (60). The flange receiving portion (62) is thinner than the main portion (60). The hub receiving portion (76) is received in the flange receiving portion (62) when the upper flange (54) is mounted on the hub (48). The hub (48) inner surface also includes a flash receiving portion (64) located closer to the free end (72) than the flange receiving portion (62). The flash receiving portion (64) is thinner than the flange receiving portion (62).
