Measurement of forest damage using nucleic acid probes

The present application describes the use of nucleic acid probes to measure changes in RNA metabolism in damaged trees. The sequences of two cDNA clones which can be used to measure the corresponding mRNAs in leaves relative to the content of specific comparison mRNAs are described. Analysis of this quantification has shown a clear correlation with the damage to stands of trees (spruce). The use of such damage-associated clones for investigating the pathogenic mechanisms and for diagnosis is a very promising method in research into forest damage.
