A method and a device for controlling a vehicle is proposed in which two control units are connected to one another via an interface, on which interface at least two items of information are transmitted by means of a pulse width-modulated signal. Preferably, this interface serves to connect one control unit for influencing the engine power and one control unit for influencing a braking device of a vehicle, preferably a supplementary brake such as a retarder, the said units interacting in order to control or limit the travelling speed of the vehicle. <IMAGE>
