The invention relates to a permanent magnetic separator for the separation of magnetic particles from mixtures and suspensions. The separator is distinguished by a main gradient which is remote from the pole. For this purpose, the permanent magnets are arranged in such a manner that the gradient which is responsible for the force on the magnetic particles collects the particles in the spatial region between the permanent magnets and free movement of the particle mixture through the separator is not impeded (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
